Personal Information:
Professor in Bogazici University, Institute of Environmental Sciences
Hisar Campus, Bebek 34342, Istanbul/TURKEY
Education:
Ph.D., School of Civil Engineering, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, GB, 1994
M.S., School of Civil Engineering, University of Newcastle upon Tyne, GB, 1990
B.S., Environmental Engineering Department, Middle East Technical University, TR, 1988

What is your area of expertise?

Energy Production From Wastes - Bioenergy Systems, Microbial ecology and environmental microbiology, Methanogenic archaeal diversity, their functions and interrelationships, Microbial products in bioreactors, Design, analysis, operational control of industrial and municipal wastewater treatment systems.

Where does your focus lie within your current project(s)? (related to methane)

Our studies generally focus on enhancing methane production in anaerobic digestion systems treating various wastes including animal manure and energy crops for increasing energy generation and investigating microbial community structures under different operational and environmental conditions.

What would be the added value for you of joining an international researchers network? (such as the METHAGENE network)

To meet scientific people to enhance collaboration with our research group at Bogazici University and Istanbul Technical University (http://meg.boun.edu.tr).

What and/or who inspired you to make a career in science?

My husband Prof. Orhan INCE and my supervisor Prof. G.K. Anderson, Univ. Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.

What do you enjoy most about your work?

I enjoy most about our work is to learn new insights each time about microbial process and get amazed by ability of microorganisms.

What is your most stand-out or surprising moment in science so far?

When I was rewarded with superior achievement in science in Bogazici University, 2002.
