Eva Lewis

Tell us about yourself (Who are you? Where are you from? What is your educational background?)

I’m Eva Lewis, from Cork in Ireland. I studied Agricultural Science (specialising in Animal Science) in UCD, Ireland and graduated with a 1st class honours BAgrSc in 2000. Then I completed a PhD in animal science (sow and piglet behaviour and welfare) with Teagasc and UCD (submitted 2003). From 2003 to 2005 I worked with the animal nutrition company Provimi as part of their dairy cow nutrition research and technical support team in Belgium and from 2005 to 2008 as the purchasing and technical manager for their Irish wing NuTec. Since then I have been working with Teagasc in Ireland, at the Moorepark Research Centre.

What is your area of expertise?

  • Contribute to international data pools

What and/or who inspired you to make a career in science?

Never interested in a career in anything other than science!

What do you enjoy most about your work?

The science, the questions, the challenges, the cows…and sometimes the people!

What is your most stand-out or surprising moment in science so far?

Collaborating with new disciplines means that you’re learning all the time and even the small things are a revelation
