Tell us about yourself (Who are you? Where are you from? What is your educational background?)
My name is Simon Deusch. I completed my study in the field of Agricultural Biology in 2013. Currently, I’m
doing my PhD as a part of an international graduate school at the University of Hohenheim, Stuttgart in Germany.
I started my project in July 2013.
What is your area of expertise?
I am a rumen microbiologist. The focus of my previous education was classical microbiology and biochemistry. My current
work is based on metaproteomics, 16S rDNA approaches and NMR-metabolomics in order to elucidate the complexity of the rumen
microbiota.
Where does your focus lie within your current project(s)? (related to methane)
The focus of my work at the Institute of Animal Science is the impact of various animal feedings on the structure and
function of the rumen microbiota as well as the therewith associated abundance and activity of methanogenic archaea.
What would be the added value for you of joining an international researchers network? (such as the
METHAGENE network)
Exchange of knowledge and experience as well as constructive remarks between various scientific disciplines is great
way to learn from each other and improve our overall progress.
What and/or who inspired you to make a career in science?
Driven by curiosity, I’ve always been impressed by scientist of all kind of disciplines.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
The opportunity to contribute to a better understanding of our surrounding world and its intricacy.
