Tell us about yourself (Who are you? Where are you from? What is your educational background?)
Mr. Yiguang Zhao , from Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) in UK.
PhD in Biological Sciences (funded by the China Scholarship Council) at Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute in UK &
Queen’s University of Belfast, UK (2012-2016).
MSc in Ruminant Nutrition and Feed Science at Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Beijing, China (2009-2012).
What is your area of expertise?
Ruminant nutrition.
Where does your focus lie within your current project(s)? (related to methane)
My study is to investigate the effects of animal (breed, sex, liveweight and age) and dietary (fresh grass, grass silage,
grass nuts and concentrate) factors on enteric methane emissions and to develop prediction equations for methane emissions
from sheep using respiration chambers.
What would be the added value for you of joining an international researchers network? (such as the
METHAGENE network)
It would help in developing links with other organisations for knowledge exchange and research collaboration.
What and/or who inspired you to make a career in science?
A strong interest in improvement of production efficiencies and development of a low carbon economy in livestock production systems
and encouragement from my supervisor Dr. Tianhai Yan.
What do you enjoy most about your work?
Working in a team with rich experience in sustainable agriculture.
What is your most stand-out or surprising moment in science so far?
My study won the 2nd prize in the Molecular Biosciences/Institute for Global Food Security Postgraduate Symposium 2015 at
Queens University Belfast.
