A successful METHAGENE training school on “large-scale methane data handling, analyses and interpretation” was held in Poznan, Poland,
from September 23 to 25, 2015. 22 Trainees participated actively in the course. There were trainees from 15 countries; The Netherlands,
Germany, Belgium, Italy, UK, Slovakia, France, Sweden, Switzerland, Ireland, Denmark, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, and Canada.
5 teachers covered the topics of:
Impact of methane emissions from ruminants – Yvette de Haas
Analysing time series – Peter Lovendahl
Different methane phenotypes in breeding programmes – Jan Lassen
Methane phenotypes and analyses of methane data – Phil Garnsworthy
From raw CH4 concentration measurements to quantitative CH4 production using the CO2-method – Jorgen Madsen
Each topic was introduced by a lecture and followed by a practical to let the Trainees get hands-on experience with working with large-scale methane data.
These practicals were found to be very useful. All presentations of the lectures can be found here (password protected):
On the last day, the participants shared their experiences from working with the data in their own research. This was a very interactive part of the
programme, and the trainees (as well as the teachers ;-)) really enjoyed that. It was suggested that this would be included in the programme
or the next training school too, because it enlarges the network and the trainees know better where everybody is working on. The presentations of
the trainees can be found here (password protected):
